Los Angeles and Hollywood

Today we drove from Santa Monica into Los Angeles to the Magic Castle Hotel where we are staying for the next few nights.

Mandy still wanted to see someone famous today so we detoured via Bel Air and Beverly Hills. Unfortunately though we didn't see anyone that we recognised. We saw a blonde woman who'd had heaps of plastic surgery in some posh car, but she wasn't a celeb (note: she may well have been a celeb from one of those shows like the Bold & The Beautiful or something, but neither of us recognised her).

Next we drove up the big hills to the North of the city to the famous Hollywood sign. The photo on the left was about as close as we could get to it.

After that, we checked in to our hotel and then took a stroll down Hollywood Boulevard to see the walk of fame and a few other landmarks like the Chinese Theatre where Mandy immediately found Johnny Depp's feet and handprints (she loves him).

As the sun set, we raced up the road to Griffiths Observatory to try and get a look around where that knife scene in Rebel Without a Cause was shot, but the park closed at sunset and we were (literally) chased out by the park ranger. But managed to get this fuzzy shot over the city at night. We might try and come back here before the end of the trip.

And before bed, we settled into our hotel room, Carla had some pasta and then ended her day by discovering a cupboard which she sat in for a little while.

All in all a really good day, unsuccesful on the star spotting front but everything else went well.

Tomorrow - Disneyland.
